I am in the process of decorating my living room. I will varnishing my floor boards light oak, I have a pine door, a large pine mirror and pine picture frames. The walls are magnolia and the skirting will be white. I also have a large beam across the centre ceiling which I will be painting either light or dark brown.
I havent brought any furniture yet but I have seen something I like. I have two alcoves either side of my fire place. Would Dark Brown sideboards look alright considering I already have quite a bit of pine or would it be safer just to stick to pine side boards??
Dark wood or pine?!?
You need contrast, so I would think the darker ones would look better. Why don't you build or buy bookshelves to go inside the alcoves? I always think books on each side of a fireplace looks very attractive. Plus, you can put other objects on the shelves, besides books--artwork, shells, pictures, baskets, etc. Arranged neatly, I think that would look great, and all the book spines add a nice splash of color.
Reply:Too much matchy matchy is boring; you should add some dark wood for contrast or you could use painted wood if you like that look.
Reply:Dard wood would look better. Adding more pine to your room would make it look too much of one thing. Definately dark wood.
Reply:No! Pine sideboards would be too much! go for Dark Wood it will set the room off nicely!
Reply:I suggest sticking with pine. It will make your room flow better.
Reply:pine or white
Reply:my sister always thinks you should stick to one wood, i think it looks to much and kinda 'overstyled' .. i have a mixture of wood, and i think it looks better, they all compliment each other, .... go with what you like, and if it is quality it will look good anywhere xxx
