Pine tree problems?

I have a pine tree in my garden thats approx 30 years old, could be more, its about 40 ft tall. Ive lived in my property 10 years, and there has always been some browning of the pine needles. This year however, much more of the tree has turned brown, its losing needles far more than ever before, and there is sap running down the trunk of the tree that looks almost blue in colour, and there is lots of it. There is still some green, and there are pine cones on it, but ive never seen it as bad as this before. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Less expensive to cut a sample %26amp; take it to a real garden center. Not a hardware store or wal-mart where they don't have very educated or experienced employees.

It could be mites or borers or root feeding insects, let the experts see %26amp; advise you.
Reply:It could be a variety of issues. Bugs, lack of water, contaminates in the water, etc.

There are many possibilities, and much guessing that could be done on our/your part. If you really want the tree to survive, and are willing to part with some $$$ to get it done, have someone come out and inspect it. Maybe a specialist from the local herbitology department of your local college or plant nursery can give some better ideas.
Reply:Abrupt changes in conditions may cause problems, such as: more or less watering, disturbance to roots, severe pruning. Long term changes (affects of smog, drought, fertilizer reactions, pests) are also possible.

If your tree is valuable to you (sounds like it is) consult a registered arborist who lives in your area.
Reply:Get a tree surgeon in to look at it, given the high winds in UK recently, you don't want it giving up the ghost and falling through your roof!
Reply:Could be bugs. Bark beetles.

Or maybe just a lack of water.
