I live in lower Alabama. and want to use Pine Straw for around my Flower beds. how much does it cost, a bale? and how many bales would I need for around an average garden with lots of flower beds?
Pine Straw question?
The price would be around $4-6 a bale...
as for how much you would need..check
with your local farmers co-op. The co-op's
normally carry bales of pine straw.
But... if you want to save some money. Find
someone you know who has pine trees on
their property and see if they will let you rake
up and haul off what you need... that will save
you a lot of money

Bales come in different sizes, so find out how many square feet (at 2-3" deep) the bales you are considering will cover. Estimate the square footage you need to cover (multiply the length times the width of your flower beds) and divide that by the coverage of the bale. That will tell you how many bales you need. There are some automatic calculators out there as well: http://www.PineStrawInfo.com
