I am having some yard work done. This includes cutting some pine trees. He has decided he likes to go in the back lot and dig as a result he has pine sap in his coat. I have bathed him and cut the most of it out. In brushing him I'm sure he has more. I can feel a sticky feel to his coat in places. I would like to get that out because I'm sure it will cause matting. THANK YOU for any help!!
HELP!!! My Shih-tzu has pine sap in his coat. Does anyone know what I can use on him to remove pine sap?
Try a product called Desolve it i get it at Wal Mart near the cleaning products 100% organic

regular rubbing alcohol
OHPPs and Goop off apparently do the same thing.
peanut butter also works but a lot of people have said they then had the problem of getting that out of the hair.
After using any of these the dog will then need bathed.
Reply:i use toilet paper to remove shihtzu so that might help.
Reply:cut his hair as the sap could cause him to itch
Reply:Try using some mayonaise on the sticky parts, rub it in his coat really well to get the sap to unstick then bathe him with some dawn dishsoap, just be careful not to get it in his eyes. The use of the mayonaise will cause the sap to become oily and come off his fur, and the use of the dawn dishsoap will remove the mayonaise oil. You might need to repeat this a couple of times but it will come out. Good luck!
Reply:Hello... you could try some olive oil ..let is soak for a bit then try combing some..non toxic %26amp; harmless to the dog, too many baths aren't good %26amp; won't help, but the oil might loosen it better ..anything else would have to be chemical %26amp; possibly toxic..maybe you can also create the dog a pen, if he's going to keep goin back to the sap ...Take Care :)
Reply:Anything oily like baby oil or even olive oil should take it off.
