I have been told old house on land is made from long leaf pine.
Where do I find someone to confirm this information?
What is long leaf pine lumber?
Ask a dendrologist (tree guy). Of get a wood identification book. If you live in the south, and the house is old (pre 1950s) that is very likely. Much of the natural long leaf pine forests have been replaced by shortleaf pine and loblolly pine after they were harvested. I don't think the properties of any southern yellow pine are all that different from one another. A specialist would be able to tell... but in terms of strength and other building qualities, it shouldn't make a difference.
