Pine trees-xmas trees?

I live in Ct., and have a huge backyard, (5 acres). I want to plant pine trees/xmas trees, just to make it look nice. I seem to recall the State of Ct. selling seedlings, for almost nothing. But, I cannot recall who/what/where. I can't find it on the net. Anybody have any ideas? Regards, Bob

contact your state forestry or soil conservatin service. Of course first call your Extension Agent, they try to keep track of all this misc info stuff for you. Do a google for (your state) Cooperative Extension Service and follow down thru until you get to your county agent's phone number. Information in their job!
Reply:some pine trees such as scotts pine make excellent christmas trees,while other pine trees like the austrian pine dont.

Reply:The Arbor Day Foundation gives away tress when you join. They are small, but what do you expect for free?





I'm my area there are also programs sponsored by the local gas and electric company to encourage homeowners to plant shade trees and windbreaks to make their homes more energy efficient. Check with your local utility.
Reply:Don't buy from the state as these won't grow to look like christmas trees but tall pines. A lot of nurseries will see bulk seedlings for a reasonable amout.

If the above is no help to you, call your State's or City's Parks Department. They will be able to give you a name or two.
