We have a large stand of tall pine tree's (3 acres) and nothing but dead pine needles lays on the forest floor. Nothing but a few spots of some kind of grass grows where the sun gets in. I'd like to know if there are plants that would enjoy this envioronment. I believe the mulch of the pine needles and possibly the acidity of these keeps the forest floor in there bare.
Any suggestions???
Plants that grow well in shaded pine tree forests?
Azaleas, they love the acid in the soil. I have them planted all around my pine trees and they are beautiful
Reply:good luck..i have two huge pine tree in the back...I was taught that it was the oils from the needles..but who knows.. i suggest putting mulch down or sone..then maybe a bench or table make it a peacefull getaway...good luck.

Reply:Try lorapedlum. This beautiful Chinese scrub come is the short and tall varieties. They like being in shaded areas, as well as sun. The purplish-red leaves and purple blooms are very interesting.
