White mark on pine coffee table?

Mu daughter put down something hot on my pine coffee table and it has left a white impression.. Is there a way to remove this without doing over the whole top??

Rub the area with wet cigerette ashes. It work as a mild abrasive.
Reply:Not really. The hot object caused moisture in the wood to come up into the protective coating (poly, varnish, shellac etc) You will need to sand and refinish the area or the whole top.
