Dog allergic to pine needles?

Has anyone's dog been found to be allergic to pine needles. Our golden retriever has itchy, inflamed paws. We've tried everything and now we have an appointment to see an allergy and skin specialist. I'm thinking he may be allergic to pine needles, as our back yard is covered in them. Ever heard of this?

Dog allergic to pine needles?
My neighbor has a dog that is allergic to grass.
Reply:For many years my dog Pepper has had the same problem with his paws. The only thing the vet would tell me is they don't know what causes it. I looked on line for a long time until I found www.nzymes.com. They claim that this condition is from a form of yeast infection. I have just started Pepper on their program and I can already see a big difference in his condition. There is also a section on thyroid problems in dogs and cats that vets commonly over look.

Good Luck!
Reply:I am allergic to pine needles, I would suppose that if a person can be...then so can a pup. I am sure that allergy testing will help find the culprit of the paw inflammation....good luck to your pup!
Reply:It is VERY common for dogs to be allergic to pine needles. If it is just on his paws, then it sounds as if it just about has to be something that is coming into contact with his feet. Does he ever lick his feet? That can be a sign that it is an allergy. I'm glad your'e taking him to a specialist. He can get some meds there to help control the problem.
Reply:pine needles can cause an allergy is humans also so it is very possible. I wonder if benedryl works for dogs..hmm check with vet.
Reply:I'm going through the same thing with one of my dogs - although it's not pine needles. He has a very inflamed paw which he is constantly licking. I'm thinking maybe it's ear mites - he uses his foot to scratch his ear and transfers the little buggers to his foot. Not sure though. Going to the vet later in the week.
