It gives you every hint and detail to make a winning car and can answer any question you may have.

The design of the car is not as important as getting the wheels and axle working well. Aerodynamics will not make a difference in this type of a race--it's all in the wheels, axles and lubing. If you are using hand tools only, then the design should be real simple but you can paint it anyway you want. Here are some ideas to help you. Scroll down until you get to the table and click on the ideas. Some are too fancy and some are from kits but overall, you can choose a design or paint job you like and do your best. http://www.pinewoodpro.com/pinewood-derb...
Reply:There are two things to consider , at least a number of years ago when I made cars for my kids , and won first place many times . First are you going for the design prize or the speed run ?

Design can be anything . It depends on your designing and mechanical skills .

Speed is something else . Design your car so that the front wheels are on a wooden axle that can be slightly steered to either side , but very hard to move .

When your car is complete , run it down a slanted board . If it pulls to one side , adjust the axle very slightly until the car will run straight down the board without pulling to the side . Push it on a smooth floor . Does it pull to one side ? If it does , make corrections .

The idea is to prevent the car from rubbing the side rail on the run . Good luck .
