My husband cam across some sort of pine tree with blue or purple berries and it made him itch.... anybody know what kind of tree it is? I live in Maryland...

Yup, what you have a cedar tree (probably Red Cedar - Juniperus virginianus).... but those blue 'berries' are actually fleshy cones. Here is what they look like:

I have worked around this plant, and it has at times caused some itching and a small rash, but it never lasted more than a day for me.
Reply:I live in Oklahoma and I have seen them and yes I itched too.
Reply:Juniper of some flavor, perhaps Juniperus virginiana, red cedar, one of the most common native gymnosperms in the eastern states.
Juniper berries, btw, are what give flavor to gin.
