Pine table?

i have a large pine table in my kitchen and every time i clean it, after it dries it becomes sticky and then when i put a magazine or newspaper on it, it gets stuck and leaves a print mark. any ideas what to clean it with or why it is sticky?

Pine table?
You have an improper or too old finish on the table. Sanding won't work, it will only clog the sand paper. Try scraping, if this does not work, you will have to remove the finish with paint remover. Citristrip is much less obnoxious than MEK. Put on a heavy coat in the morning, another at noon and scape late in the afternoon. May have to go more than once. Stain if you want to darken or color the wood, then apply tow or three coats of oil based polyurethane. Poly is very tough and will last many years unless abused.
Reply:Sounds like the table may not have been sealed properly. Try sanding it back using very fine sandpaper and apply a two-pot lacquer. This should produce a very hard, extremely durable finish. Good luck
Reply:this sounds like a ventilation problem in your kitchen. Wipe off the top of your fridge and see if it is sticky, also check your cabinet doors. There is a chance that you need to open your windows more or run the ventilation fan
