Plants that grow well in shaded pine tree forests?

We have a large stand of tall pine tree's (3 acres) and nothing but dead pine needles lays on the forest floor. Nothing but a few spots of some kind of grass grows where the sun gets in. I'd like to know if there are plants that would enjoy this envioronment. I believe the mulch of the pine needles and possibly the acidity of these keeps the forest floor in there bare.

Any suggestions???

Azaleas, they love the acid in the soil. I have them planted all around my pine trees and they are beautiful

Reply:Try lorapedlum. This beautiful Chinese scrub come is the short and tall varieties. They like being in shaded areas, as well as sun. The purplish-red leaves and purple blooms are very interesting.
