Is pine firewood bad to burn indoors?

Someone told me I shouldn't burn pine firewood in my house. Why is that? I'm cutting up a bunch of (already) fallen trees from the forest near my place, and there are a few nice, big pines that would make for a lot of logs.

Is pine firewood bad to burn indoors?
Burning pine logs will create creosote build up in your chimney. Over time this can lead to a chimney fire. I had this happen in a house. Burn some hard woods, like oak or maple with the pine. This creates a hotter fire and helps reduce the build up in the chimney.
Reply:If it has a lot of resin "a waxy substance" split it very thin and use as kindling once it seasons.

Otherwise mix it with other wood about one stick to two of other wood.

I am an old wood burner and have never had any trouble with pine, just use your head.
Reply:I don't think it has anything to do with emissions into your house, but rather that it will cause creosote to form faster on the inside of your chimney, creating a fire hazard.

Cut them down and get rid of them elsewhere.
Reply:not good....the resin from the pine smoke will build up in your chimney and either start dripping down or catch on fire....if it catches on fire, you might as well kiss your house goodbye, cause pine resin is almost impossible to put out once it ignites....
Reply:I believe that they are heavy in sap and this can coat the interior of your chimney when burned much in a fireplace which after time can build up and be cause for chimney fires.
Reply:bad - in or out... not good for cooking either
Reply:pine is good for kindling and so is cedar, it also has a sap that is not good for the chimney.... just use small pieces to get your fire going, the pine sap is bad if it builds up enough, but, using it for kindling is ok, and it's a great firestarter... but, for burning on a regular basis, you should burn hardwood
Reply:You need to stop burning Pine inside your fire place (1) pine is very sappy and it make creasole and that coats the chimmney pipe this is very flammable if a flame is to hit it in 1 to 2 years time your smoke stack will be filled with the pine sap and this will cause a fire in your chimmney so if you don't want your home any more keep burning it if you want to stay there stop burning it and have your chimmney cleaned out it's about 100.00 to have it cleaned burn hard wood it's better and lasts longer and it doesn't make sap and will not cling to your pipe stop now
Reply:Pine has a lot of resin that can build up in your chimney, causing a chimney fire. Pine does make good kindling though. Cut up the pine and have a bonfire party one weekend.
