Will pine bedding hurt my new hamster?

I just bought a Black-Bear (Syrian) Hamster. I bought 100% all natural pine, from LM Animal Farms. Doing research on the net, it seems some people have had problems with pine bedding. Is my hamster safe? Will it be okay for a night if I need to buy new litter tommorow? What should I do with her tonight?

Will pine bedding hurt my new hamster?
My daughter and I have had many many hamsters over the years, and 100% natural pine will be just fine. It's the cedar chips that are toxic. They use to be okay, but then the manufactures started adding something to kill flea (for dog bedding) and it is that additive that kills the hamsters. If your hamster starts walking sideways, or doing unsual backflips (no kidding) then it is being poisioned. If you are worried about the pine chips, you can always shred newspaper. We've done that too.
Reply:it'll be fine it's just that some animals are allergic to pine but if she's fine for one night she probably isnt allergic and it shouldnt bother her. anyway that's what i use for my syrian hamster.
Reply:PINE BEDDING IS BAD FOR ANY ANIMAL (HAMPSTERS, MICE, RATS, SNAKES, LIZARDS) IT CAN AND WILL KILL THEM!! SO WILL CEDAR. USE ASPEN, PAPER, OR i USE AN ODOR CONTROL THING MADE OUT OF RECYCLED PAPER THAT IS GOOD TOO. IF YOU CHOSE TO STICK WITH PINE IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT IF IT DIES.
Reply:pine is ok. cedar is bad for all small pets because it has such a strong scent. change bedding often and remove all sharp pieces.
Reply:Shouldnt cause a problem for a night.

If you want to make sure you could as well use a newspaper for a night (cover the floor , tear it up and make paper balls of it)
Reply:Pine is ok its CEDAR that is the problem
Reply:i don't think so.
Reply:The brand of bedding called Carefresh is supposed to be the best for all small animals, like hamsters. Pine isn't good because it's pretty dusty (and they're very sensitive to dust) and it has some kind of oils that are unhealthy for the animals too. But I think she should be OK if it's just for one night.

If you're near a Petsmart store I know they usually sell Carefresh.

Good luck with your little hamster!
Reply:I've heard that pine and cedar both are bad for the respiratory systems of small animals and rodents. Read up on this site:

Reply:i don't see why not. if it hurts your hand it will hurt them, if it feels soft to the touch it is probably ok.
Reply:No they'll be fine.
Reply:it will be ok.
Reply:Use pine chips no matter what that cedar chip stuff is the stuff that is bad. It'll kill your pet because of the poisoning on it.Do not buy any other chip.
Reply:The wrong kind of bedding can make your hamster sick or worse yet, kill him/her. Avoid at all costs Cedar and Pine bedding. Newspaper is also bad because of the possibility of sickness caused by the inks used. See our article on bedding for smart alternatives. BEWARE: Some hamster or small animal "packages" may include a cage, wheel, bedding, etc. Sometimes these packages may include Cedar or Pine bedding, make sure when you purchase your package that you know what kind of bedding is being included and if the salesperson can't tell you, then walk away.
