Pine Tree Shape Problem?

We have a couple of pine trees that were planted in the yard about 8-10 years ago. The yard, including the trees has been neglected for a few years and I am currently giving it a good overhaul. I don't know what to do about the pine trees. I don't know what type was planted. I suspect they have grown much taller than expected. They tower over the one storey house a bit. They are quite misshapen with areas in which the tree braches are much shorter than you would expect giving them a very odd uneven look. One of the trees seem to have two main trunks toward the top or rather the main trunk spilt into two somewhere on the way up. What can I do about these trees? They do not look good at all. However, they appear otherwise healthy.

Pine Tree Shape Problem?
Pine Trees (particularly Monterey Pines) are often planted as a wind break or to block out other yards. They do well for a couple of years. However, Monterey Pines are very short lived and often don't have the cultural requirements that they need. A tree that has a split trunk is VERY vulnerable to splitting in the next strong storm. Make sure that it is not near your house!!! Misshapen branches will also mean that it will be unbalanced in a storm!

You should seriously consider removing these trees as they could be a hazard in your yard!

Good Luck!!
Reply:well to know what type of tree it is take a picture and run down to the local nursery (not home depot or Lowe's) and have them go over them with you they should be able to give you suggestions on how to prune them and reshape them..
