I read this article about squirrels killing a dog in Russia. Locals attribute it to a shortage of pine cones in the forests. Now why the heck is there a shortage of pine cones?

Why is there a pine cone shortage in Russia?
well, their source is komsomolskaya pravda. it's #1 yellow newspaper in russia. the last time they reported something that really happened was about 20 years ago. russia actually is first in the world when it comes to pine. i've seen a shelf full of cedar pine seeds in supermarket couple days ago and i live in european part of russia, so no shortage.
bbc again confirmed my opinion of them as of not reliable source of information. read reuters if you need something more or less supported by actual facts, documents, etc. all other agencies feed crap like this one or propaganda like cnn.
good luck.

Reply:some years, pine trees, as with other trees, fail to make seed pods. The reasons can be fire, weather, insects are all three..
Reply:They are mutant flesh eating Russian squirrels. due to exposure to nuclear waste products dumped in the forests during the collapse of the Soviet Union the squirrels have mutated and like any mutant zombie type creature they seek flesh.
