My living room furniture is all mexican pine but I can't find a DVD unit in the same style anywhere so I'll have to make one. Putting it together etc is no problem but does anyone know how to get the same colour/style finish and what woods would you recommend using?

Pine is notoriously hard to stain evenly because the grain and sanding varies the porosity of the wood so much.
The best way to deal with this is to use a clear sealer on the wood prior to staining. This is best done with practice so save some scraps to try first.

try this from argos i think this is the sort of thing you might be looking for. it comes with black studs but you could leave them off for a more neutral look
